The Last Supper - I’ll Start On Monday
I felt unhappy with my body, summer was coming or could be anytime of the year, and my thoughts are veering towards a diet. Firstly, I get my dopamine hit through scrolling weight loss posts and new diets I could try. I told myself I am starting my diet Monday, but for today I allow myself all the forbidden food that won’t be available when I am dieting. Of course, my brain responds and agrees that I should eat all I can now before restriction begins. This is what we call “The Last Supper Eating”, that last time we eat excess foods that are labelled “bad”. We won’t get to eat them for some time, maybe when we have lost enough weight.
The day of the diet arrives, and we have a “food hangover”, and our insulin levels are tender. This can push us to eat more as we don’t feel physically full. Let’s just say we manage to start the diet; the rules are enforced that we must stick to this diet. Suddenly forbidden food is around us, and we take a bite of the cake, the rule has been broken. Now we might as well keep going, eat all the forbidden food and we are back in the cycle of the last supper again.
If we want a healthier relationship with food and our bodies, we must shift both our thoughts and our feelings toward them.
